Abdul Vahab is a tie and dye artisan from Bhuj for more than 10 years. With expertise in manufacturing Gharchola wedding wear, he makes tie and dye products in silk and cotton. His product line includes sarees, dupattas, stoles, and yardage. The craftsman had earlier made only traditional products for the local market. With support from organizations like Dastkar, Khamir and Kala Raksha he got exposure to new designs perspectives. With the increasing modern market, he keeps this in mind to get an output according to the demands in the market.
Most of the times, the tieing work is done by the women in their home who are capable of making 400 dots in an hour.
The tie-dye procedure is consists of several steps to be followed to yield the final product. The fabric is folded equally according to the design to be formed. After the formation of the design, the cloth is properly tied using threads over the designs. It is then soaked in the water and is kept aside. Later, the color is mixed with reagents in the water and mixed well. The fabric is then soaked properly in this solution for some time. Now remove the threads used to tie the designs and then rinse the fabric in water with different temperatures till the time the water runs mostly clear.
